2018 was a near-perfect growing season started later than previous years, saw ideal weather conditions throughout and is coming to a close for a majority of wineries throughout the valley. Wines from the 2018 vintage are now quietly developing in cellars, and winemakers are pinching themselves and smiling for the gift it appears Mother Nature has given them.
At Cultivar we work to produce wines that exceed your expectations, and we are certain that the 2018 Napa County Cabernet will do exactly that. The wine is dark purple, with hues of blues and vibrant reds peering through the glass. Aromas of black currant, plum, blackberries and a touch sweet vanilla waft towards you, while the palate is opulent, concentrated, and layered with complexity. You’ll be met with tons of dark fruits, cocoa, sweet vanilla and spice when you take your first sip. The finish will linger on your palate, with just the right amount of tannins and oak to compliment the rich fruit. This will be the perfect accompaniment to your favorite cut of prime beef or, even better, a brisket beef burger!
The year began with abundant rainfall, followed by a mild Spring resulting in extended flowering with little shatter. A Labor Day weekend heatwave kicked harvest into high gear, then cool weather allowed sugar levels to return to normal. By October 8 nearly 90 percent of the 2017 grape tonnage was in when warm, fierce winds fueled an unprecedented firestorm. Napa Valley's winemakers remain committed to upholding the region's reputation for making some of the world's finest wines and early articles about the 2017 vintage describe the wines with words such as "finesse," "great complexity of flavor" and "elegant."

The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, saw ideal weather conditions throughout and wrapped up as the valley's first significant fall rainstorm arrived on October 14. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness. Wines from the 2016 vintage are now quietly developing in cellars throughout Napa Valley and vintners are pinching themselves and smiling for the gift it appears Mother Nature has given them: a fifth consecutive vintage of stellar quality Napa Valley wines.
The Leaky Lake vineyard of clay and loam soils lead to a rich seductive fruit forward wine. Ripe, chewy tannins may be tempting to drink now although to really be impressed wait until 2021 and beyond. This is a big, rich, deep wine that is still youthful but will age for at least 10-15 years. Ideally eat with rich dishes such as prime rib roasts or ribeyes.
