2012 Caspar Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 12L
The 2012 Season: An ideal growing season from beginning to end of the season in Napa. No growing season is easy, but 2012 presented few challenges. A mild spring led to a good fruit set. Summer and fall brought warm temperatures, but no heat waves. All the fruit enjoyed a long, slow ripening. Early indications are that Cabernets will be dark, rich and age worthy, inviting comparisons with 2001, 2002 and 2007. The saturation of color is amazing; the wines are almost black, Bordeaux varieties are all heavy with tannins but it is sweet tannins and not drying at all. Also one of the largest harvest on record, really that presented the only problem, where to put all the grape.

Positioned on the sloping hillside just above the fog line overlooking Napa Valley, Caspar Estate provides an ideal, unique environment to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal growing conditions with a warm spring and long summer days, the 2012 vintage marks our 5th release of our Caspar Estate wines, and we cannot think of a more perfect vintage to mark this anniversary. The 2012 Caspar Estate Cabernet Sauvignon delivers the epitome of balance with the intensity of dark fruits, soft acidity and structured tannins. In the glass the
wine is dark purple almost black in color, hints of what it come on your nose and palate. Deep purple and dense color complement vibrant aromas of black cherry, bramble and dark currant fruit. Which are intertwined with notes of cedar and tobacco leaf that lead into cola, with hints of mint and crushed rocks. The palate is compact showcasing dark fruit, cola and sarsaparilla with depth found only in
the vintage and terroir of Caspar Estate. The sweet notes of vanilla quickly expand into a rich and plummy mouth feel finishing with firm rounded tannins and a long building finish. The profile suggests the 5th vintage for Caspar Estate should age very well for many years to come.
