This year’s harvest will go down as one of the earliest ever in the Napa Valley and it will also be noted for near-perfect weather throughout the growing season, resulting in a fairly abundant and very high quality crop. Making it three strong vintages in row!
While the drought continued, late February and early March rains provided just the right amount of water to begin the season. The season began early, and hence, so did harvest. Most of the grapes had all been picked by mMid- October.
The 2014 wines have great intensity, fantastic flavor, and length.
Located south of Yountville in the heart of Napa Valley is the Oak Knoll District appellation. The appellation’s close proximity to San Pablo Bay results in a climate that is cooler and more moderate than any region in Napa Valley outside of Carneros. With Oak Knoll District Chardonnay’s reputation for a restrained, delicate style, it was only natural for us to look for fruit from this appellation to produce Cultivar’s delightful Cabernet Franc.

This stunning wine opens with aromas of raspberries, cardamom, tobacco and earth on the nose. The palate is full of fresh raspberries and black cherries as well as cinnamon and sweet brown spices. It is medium in weight with balanced tannins. This super food-friendly wine would be great with duck or salmon.
