2017 Vintage Notes: The 2017 grape season will be noted for two events: the rainfall and the fires. Significant rainfall throughout the state ended several years of drought and provided the grapevines the water they needed. Then California wildfires broke out near the end of harvest, most of the grapes of Napa and Sonoma had been harvested. The late summer heat spike allowed for fantastic maturity and great flavors to develop. All of this will lead to small quantities of wines that should be outstanding.
2017 Cultivar Rosé: Julien Fayard (our winemaker) is from the Azur region of France and he makes Rosé reminiscent of the French Rivera. This year Syrah + Grenache from the Sierra Foothills AVA make up our Rosé. The Sierra Foothills AVA (established in 1987) is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Wine grapes were introduced to the AVA in the California Gold Rush. Cool mornings followed by warm days allow for ideal conditions for grape maturity. We have found this an ideal appellation to source Syrah and Grenache for our 2017 Rose. Beautiful pale rose color, floral aromatic crisp on the palate with strawberry and cherry notes.
